Updates on Project Sylpheed
What started out as an arcade-style shooter designed exclusively for Xbox 360 is now turning out to be an action-packed game that allows for full freedom of movement in 3D space.
Brought to us by Game Arts, Ikusabune, Square Enix, and Anima, Project Sylpheed seems to be living up to its impression of having four companies working on its development…at least from what we’ve heard. But before you get confused as to how there are four companies simultaneously working on the game, let us straighten things out first.
GameArts owns the ‘Silpheed’ name and provides backup for the game’s developer, Seta. Ikusabune is a team within Seta that’s working on Project Sylpheed, a team that incidentally also consists of former GameArts employees. Anima studio handles the different aspects of the game such as character design and game plot. Square Enix handles the publishing and marketing aspects of the game. Whew.
Now, moving on to the more important and useful stuff we’re sure you guys want to know, let’s move to gameplay: There are 16 missions which have a briefing and up to three phases each. Each phase in turn has a specific objective which could be protecting your own forces, defeating enemy ships, or whatnot. For each mission, you are allowed three commands that you can give to your wingman and as the game progresses, you earn more wingmen as well as variety of commands (attack target, get into formation, defend ship from enemies,etc.).
There’s still no word as to when Project Sylpheed will be released in the US but it’s said to be scheduled for release in Japan by September 28. Meanwhile, keep checking with us here in QJ for more updates.
