Super Mario Galaxy, which launched a couple of weeks ago, is the successor to the 3D Mario line of games which includes Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. Like its predecessors, Super Mario Galaxy got rave reviews from just about any website including this one. This then begs the question: Is the Super Mario series flying higher than ever?
Gametrailers created a nice comparison video showing us the best moments of the Nintendo Gamecube‘s Super Mario Sunshine and the Nintendo Wii’s Super Mario Galaxy. Which one is better? Watching this might help you make up your mind:
As you can see, both titles carry that Nintendo tradition of Grade-A quality on first-party titles. Both are excellent releases in their own right, but if this blogger is to share a piece of his mind, I’d probably give it to Super Mario Galaxy.
In my view, the presentation, the overall design, the clever exploitation of the Wii’s features and just the sheer scale of Super Mario Galaxy gives it the edge over Super Mario Sunshine. In this age where games with insane HD graphics are all the craze, Super Mario Galaxy proves that gameplay and adequate presentation can still carry a title to the industry’s upper echelon. Super Mario Galaxy easily ranks as one of the best games ever, making this Nintendo Wii owner a proud one indeed.
