U.S. Virtual Console future release: ESRB gives E10+ rating to Mercs - Image 1One quick search at the database of the Entertainment Software Rating Board will yield a result for Mercs, the 1990 top-down run and gun arcade game from Capcom.

It was re-submitted by Nintendo indicating that the title will soon be gracing Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console service. Mercs revolves around a covert counter-terrorist team known as Wolf Force.

The objective of the game is to rescue the president from rebels in the fictional country of Zutulu. Note that the publisher indicated in the ESRB database is Sega.

That means that the version coming to VC is port for Mega Drive which came out in 1991. Its difference with the arcade version is the lack of multiplayer option. However, the Sega Mega Drive port does offer things not found in the original version.

This include the “original mode” in addition to the standard “arcade mode”. This mode introduces new stages and characters not found in the Capcom build of Mercs.

Nintendo has yet to issue an official release date as to when U.S.-based gamers can get their hands on Mercs. Just keep checking back here at QJ.NET for more updates.
