WarioWare: Smooth Moves is ‘Pure Joy’

WarioWare: Smooth Moves

WarioWare: Smooth Moves may not be the most beautiful-looking game, but its interesting use of the Wiimote can only lead to a really fun gaming experience. And in WarioWare: Smooth Move’s first tech demo, SPOng was present to test out the game, and they came up with the following verdict: “WarioWare: Smooth Moves will be one of the few essential Wii purchases as soon as it comes out….”

This Wii game will feature “over two hundred super-fast micro-games” that makes it the perfect party game “for our attention deficit disordered culture”, SPOng’s Adam Hartley writes. The micro-games will be thrown by Smooth Moves at Wario, who stumbled upon a strange book and a Wiimote-looking baton that he uses to learn moves that will help him (and his friends) conquer the mini games. Some of the games that SPOng was able to test drive in the demo are (pretty much self-explanatory): Running, Paper Shredder, Hula Hoop, Squat, Driving, Tennis Raquet Keepy Uppy, Get Marble in the Hole, Sautee Frying Pan, Push someone over, Pump the Balloon Up, Turn Key in Lock, Dumbell Weight lift, Balance a Brush in Your Hand, Cookie Cutter, Insert False Teeth, Samurai Slash a Log, Tracing, and Shake the Flies off a Banana.

Smooth Moves’ gaming experience was described as “intense, fun, hilarious”. Harley claims that it was hard to play the game without smiling “like the village idiot on strong ecstasy”. He did try to put on a serious face, but lasted only five seconds. Even just watching others play this Wii title is fun. Why? “This is because, if played correctly (and weÂ’ll come onto this) players are forced to make a whole different range of frankly silly-looking moves in order to progress through the game,” Harley explains.

With Smooth Moves also utilizing the WiiMoteÂ’s rumble and speaker features, is there any imperfection in this game? It is fairly easy to cheat – you can still win the game by just winging the Wiimote around instead of making your body move according to the game’s directions. But as the game’s PR person said to the SPOng team, “why would you want to do that? ThatÂ’s just not as much fun?!”

Up to now, word on when the game’s coming out still hasn’t sprung. Meanwhile, read Harley’s full preview of the game by clicking the link below.
