Wii can do GameCube ‘brew!
Too much has been ranted (and flamed) about the Wii “just being an upgunned GameCube“. But it’s not at all bad, it’s the direction Nintendo decided to take, it’s a nice direction, you see. You’ve got instant backwards compatibility there. You could almost do Linux on the Wii the same way you do Linux in the Cube.
Ditto GameCube homebrew.
We found this Photobucket vid by NitrousXP showing off the Wii and SDLoad booting the Snes9x homebrew emulator through its GameCube compatibility. Just click play, sit back, relax, and realize that ‘brew dev for the GameCube actually has a reason to go on, because they’re also playable on the Wii. Without modding the chip or warranty-voiding anything.
(Of course, since the Wii uses its “GameCube mode” in all this, this doesn’t mean you’ll be using any motion-sensing in them homebrew. At least that’s the best we can figure out so far.)
New to the GCN ‘brew game? Similar to comparable DS ‘brew, this GCN ‘brew you just saw uses SDCard readers that plug into GameCube memory card readers (also present in the Wii), and Datel‘s Action Replay (for the GameCube). If we find any more details about this one, we’ll let you know.
