Wii got beaten to the punch by Sony -Fils-Aime
Some time after the Game Developers Conference 2007, Nintendo America chief Reggie Fils-Aime conceded that Phil Harrison and the Sony PlayStation 3 edged them in acquiring the rights to get Media Molecule‘s LittleBigPlanet exclusively on their console.
Fils-Aime held back no praises for the game that stole the show in GDC, saying, “That product, I think, is quite intriguing. I’m not sure how well it will do on the Sony platform, quite frankly, but I think that the product they showed was outstanding.”
For Media Molecule’s part, Alex Evans said that his team decided to go with Sony because of the Cell Processor and the console’s high-end nature. “Sticking those constraints on ourselves allowed us to focus,” he explains.
Fils-Aime gave credit to Harrison’s success in acquiring the services of Evans’ team, but revealed that he was less impressed with PlayStation Home. “Home, I am less excited about, but that’s Sony’s challenge to go figure out,” says the outspoken Nintendo bigwig.
