Wii launch at Universal Studios

WiiAs our source said, the Wii launch came and went, but it sure is something worth looking back to. After all, it didn’t seem much like a launch, but more like a party. Well, sort of.

Anyway, I do know that everyone was in for a treat at the EB Games retail store at the Universal Studios theme park in LA. Apart from the Wii and DS demos, acrobats performed, a deejay played beats to keep everyone’s adrenalines pumping, and “roving Wiis” – modified Segway scooters with high-def monitors – circled the area.

Nintendo of America“>George Harrison, Nintendo of America senior vice president of marketing, was there to hand out the first Wii unit, that went to the lucky Mario-garbed Jonathan Mann. Wristbands were given for those in line, and getting one means you’re guaranteed a console. The last one went to Cynthia Hocker from La Crescenta, Calif., who patiently waited in line to give the hip console to her 15 year-old son, who’s going to have heart surgery in three weeks. Awww…
