Wii sweeps Europe: 325,000 units sold in two days

Wii German launch

This just in from the No Surprise Department: Wii was a big hit in Europe. The next-gen console sold 325,000 units in the first two days. That was enough to make it the fastest selling home console in European history. But like we said, signs all over showed the Wii wasn’t going to flop.

Wii-wannabe owners lined up at shops all over Europe up to three days before the launch, while hundreds of shops opened their doors at midnight on launch day to allow gamers to get their hands on Wii. Wii stocks sold out after the first weekend. Meanwhile, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was generating almost as much heat as its console. European gamers bought 240,000 copies over the launch weekend.

Wii’s European success has been described as “truly amazing” and “beyond anything… ever seen before.” No one thinks its a fluke, either. Sellers predict Wii will not only continue its streak through the Christmas shopping season. The Wii is expected to be a big seller over the longer-term.
