WiiD modchip firmware update now up

WiiD modchip - Image 1Ever since the WiiD (aka Wii Drive) modchip was announced, the folks behind it have been really busy – they launched a website, placed installation diagrams, and released firmware updates. If you think that the updates have stopped there, then you are wrong, because they have recently released Firmware Upgrade V2. Seems to us that they’re just getting warmed up!

Just in case you’ve just emerged from the rock you’ve lived in for the past month, the WiiD modchip is the one of newest additions to the Wii’s growing crop of chips. The all-important D2B DVD chip support, stealth mode, and firmware upgradability via DVD are all there. Now, here’s what’s new with WiiD Firmware v.2:

This Firmware will:

  • add Region Free capability to your WII
  • correct any issues with “GCOS SELFBOOT MULTIVER” v2 and v3 and audio streaming games.
  • Details: Any streaming audio multigame disc generated with “make-multiv2.exe” would not boot due to a bug in the streaming audio intitialization in GCOS MultiVer. Version v3 corrects this problem but still has an initialization value that could lead to some problems with some games.

This firmware update detects a GCOS MultiVer generated disc and applies the correct audio initialization on the fly.
Any disc generated with the make-multiv2.exe version will now work normally and full compatibility is added to any disc made with the latest make-multiv3.exe version.

All the other streaming audio single disc games continue to work normally (as they have done since the factory firmware release).
