World of Warcraft: new fan art submission was plagiarized again

This news just came to our attention yesterday, but because your trusty World of Warcraft blogger was busy with… uhh… other things. Today marks the news as pretty old by Internet standards, but because it tackles on partly on mannerisms, we’ll take another crack shot at it.

New World of Warcraft Fan Art announced - Image 1

Blizzard just recently announced three more additions to the World of Warcraft Fan Art Gallery (alongside the announcement of the WoW VISA card), which showed intricately detailed hand illustrations on Blizzard’s Warcraft universe, done by the web’s best artists. That last fact, however, came to contention when an avid World of Warcraft gamer (who apparently was also an avid World of Warcraft content surfer) noticed that the middle artwork, “From the Shadows,” was an exact copy of one other artist’s work.

From the Shadows - by Dalayur - Image 1

His name is Dalayur and he posted his own art for his Guild up on the Forte forums before he jumped ship to Phoenix. That same art was credited to one other name (details not made known), and as soon as Ithayla of Proudmoore noticed, she cried “plagiarism!”

Now for other people who caught wind of the first plagiarism of fan art not far back, this may not be new news for you. But perhaps we forgot to mention that this is the second time someone submitted art by Dalayur and attempted to pass it off as his own. Thankfully, Blizzard was able to set things straight and switched the credit to the rightful contributor.
