Worst Name Change: Nintendo Wii, According to CNet
Yes, you read it right. Along with Segway Polo, Kodak Easy Share On/ 6P, and X-Men: The Official Game, the Nintendo Revolution name change to Wii was included in the Top 10 Worst Technologies in the Quarter 2 2006. In case you’re wondering how the then-controversial name change ranked in the list, it was ranked as the Top 9th Worst Technologies. They also added that Nintendo Revolution is cool, on the other hand, the Wii “sounds dumb”. Harsh!
We earlier reported to you guys about this rumor from the grapevine that the Wii is again up for another round of name-changing. We even mentioned some names that are said to be being considered by the top honchos at Nintendo: Nintendo GameZone, Nintendo FutureNation and Nintendo GlobalBOX. When we asked for your opinion about it, you didn’t disappoint us.
A huge bulk of the comments mentioned that when the name change came about, most of them were a little freaked out, but the Wii name just grows on you, and shortly thereafter, people became at ease with it. Most of the comments also mentioned possible names, but wouldn’t want the Ninty next-gen gaming console to succumb to another name change.
