WoW Forums: More clarifications on handling banned accounts

WoW logo - Image 1The World of Warcraft MMORPG is known, among many other things, to be especially tough regarding the matter of account violations. And while a recent report picked up on the details regarding the estimated time it may take to restore hacked accounts, another matter under discussion is on the topic of wrongfully banned accounts.

Such was the case of Kellus at the forums. According to Kellus’s statement, Touri (his friend’s name at the Malfurion server) had reported that he had been banned for the offense of exploitation. Kellus vouched for Touri, stating that he had been with him most of the time in-game, further stating that he “never witnessed him (Touri) doing anything that would warrant such an extreme consequence.” We note that Kellus is speaking for Touri as the latter was unable to access the forums due to the ban.

Moving on with the case, Kellus asked something we imagine other characters with banned accounts (wrongfully accused, of course) would like to ask: Is it still possible to restore a banned account? Here was Vrakthris’ reply:

If an account was closed it is because the account was caught doing something. The investigation by Account Administration will be checking into if someone had gained access to the account and violated our Terms of Use and not your friend.

It may take a week plus to receive a response from Account Administration, Kellus, but they will respond after they have looked into your friends case. He might also want to take a look at the following threads. The first goes over Account Compromises and the second covers Account and Computer Security. Please have him check them out while he waits for a response from AA.

Compromised (“Hacked”) Accounts

*Important* Key-Loggers and Computer Security

Just keep posted in case similar incidents are reported, or more clarifications on this matter come to light.
