Think of it like the EyeToy for the PlayStation 3, only more advanced. 3DV’s website boasts that with the camera, called the ZCam, you can:

[…] use your body freely to control games, no wearables required, no limitations attached.

Move your hand, leg, head or finger, in any direction and setting, moving quickly or making fine, minor movement – all these gestures are easily detected and understood by the system.

The system isn’t perfected yet of course, but it seems that Microsoft already wants first dibs on it. According to the report from VentureBeat, Microsoft wants to buy 3DV for US$ 35 million (cheapskate, as always, Microsoft).

Are we going to see a new peripheral for the Xbox 360, or are they hunting for tech to put into their next Xbox console? Are we going to see the next generation of Wiitards sans Wiimote?
