Square Enix’s Final Fantasy franchise is edging ever closer to the 100 million units sold worldwide mark. The latest, Final Fantasy XIII, is doing its part, recently becoming the fastest-selling Final Fantasy title ever in the UK. Not only that, it’s also the fastest-selling 2010 game in the UK so far. The same holds true for Germany and France.

“It’s great to see Final Fantasy XIII hitting the top of the UK charts and setting the pace as the fastest selling game of the year,” said Jon Brooke, Square Enix’s UK Marketing Director. “With high profile TV spots playing out beyond Easter and branded buses still travelling the country I’m positive this title is only going to get bigger and bigger.”

Last week, the game broke the five million unit milestone in terms of units sold worldwide. The whole Final Fantasy series has so far sold 96 million units since it started over 20 years ago. All of these numbers are based on data from GFK Chart-track. If you still haven’t played the game, check out our review here.
