You’re on your own: MS no longer supplying packaging boxes for RROD’d units?
Did your Xbox 360 red ring lately? You might wanna arm yourself with a handy box just in case Microsoft does not send one over so you can ship your console to them. The Consumerist reports today that a customer, Zach, was told that MS no longer ships out a box to you for this said instance.

It has been customary for MS to send a box to the unit owner for shipping to the repair center. However, according to Zach:
My Xbox red-ringed for the second time this weekend. Which is almost a relief after hearing how bad my disc drive was sounding, but not so much after hearing the new policy. I was told that Xbox no longer ships out a box to you and you must find a box to ship it out in. Yeah I guess its not a big deal, but I think it gives them another thing to hold over your head; “We are sorry, Sir, but you didn’t back it well enough and it appears the damage was due to shipping, we cannot help you.”
On the other hand, Microsoft debunks this “new policy” stating that they still do send out packaging boxes to the customers.
Our policy allows customers to choose whether they would like Microsoft to ship them a box and shipping label or print and electronic label and ship their console using their own packaging in an effort to speed up the repair process.
Maybe the agent who got the call didn’t know about the box? Or he was just messing with Zach? Help lines. Sometimes they give you more worries than actual help.
