Zelda: Twilight Princess Wii Controls Re-Worked!
In an interview with Nintendo Dream, Shigeru Miyamoto announced that he had totally redone the controls for the Wii version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Sword actions will now be done through the WiiMote. Before, it was only the spin-attack and sword plant moves that would use the motion-sensing capabilities of the WiiMote. Miyamoto had felt that players would feel too tired if they had to keep using the imaginary sword. However, “Upon actually playing it, it’s more interesting this way,” he says.
The bow controls have also been tweaked. With the sword controls done through motion, the B button is now free. They’ve changed the button that shoots an arrow from the d-pad to the B button. People were having some troubles with the bow and arrow scenario in the E3 demo so this should be a welcome change!
Whether or not we’ll be able to choose between the E3 controls and these new controls is unknown, but I wouldn’t bet on it. When asked which of the two versions (GCN and Wii) he prefers, Miyamoto answered that he’d be playing it on the Wii but that both versions should be lots of fun.
“I can’t talk about it yet, but this Zelda has a lot to it,” said Miyamoto. “What you played at E3 was just the tip of the nail.” Regarding Nintendo’s statement at E3 that Twilight Princess would be the best Zelda in history, he said, “Yes. It’s coming along quite nicely.”
We’ve waited for this game for far too long!
