Zoe Mode’s Curran: Grand Theft Auto 4 and Wii Fit can co-exist
Given that this year’s biggest games are Nintendo’s Wii Fit and Rockstar North‘s Grand Theft Auto 4 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3), you guys might be thinking there’s just too little space for both games to survive in the market. Well, that’s not Zoe Mode‘s Ste Curran thinks. In an interview, both games can actually co-exist. Details in the full article.
It’s a fact that Nintendo’s Wii Fit and Rockstar North‘s Grand Theft Auto 4 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) are two of the biggest games for this year. The numbers don’t lie. Both games are selling in great numbers.
But even if these games are two giants in the gaming market, both aren’t a real threat to each other. In fact, an analyst before said that they won’t hurt each other’s growth.
In an interview with Games Industry, Zoe Mode‘s creative director, Ste Curran, said something positive about the situation both games are in. He said that the world has a “huge market.” No matter how big a game is, there’s always room for others.
He further explained his stand by mentioning that video games before started out big since it was an “accessible medium.” It then focused down to this particular “ niche of adolescent boys.” Currently, video games are “trying to build its way out of that.”
As to what these two games have to offer, Curran said that whatever people think of Wii Fit, “It’s selling millions of copies because people want different things from games.”
Before the interview ended, he noted something of importance. He said:
I don’t have the sales for Wii Fit to hand, but it’s selling tremendously well, and you couldn’t find a game less similar to GTA – and they’re not hurting each other’s sales.
