Clearing the air on the Crackdown-Halo 3 beta

Halo 3To those confused as to the whole Crackdown Halo 3 beta set-up, listen up, and listen well. Microsoft has released a bunch of clarifications as to how this deal will actually work, and about time, too. You wouldn’t want to snoop in on every Crackdown package expecting to find an invite to Halo 3‘s beta, now would you?

Anyway, one of the more important things to take note of is that the invites will only be placed in specially marked Crackdown packages. Now, if you want in on the beta, you might want to get your behind moving and get yourself one of these special boxes. Now, there ain’t really a number as to the ratio of packages with and without invites, but as this is for a beta, it would be pretty safe to peg a hypothetical number at 25%.

Gamestop actually has a running offer right now that if you pre-order Crackdown through them, you’ll get the package with the invite. Or you could do it the hard way: scouring through store shelves for any specially marked box.

The beta of Halo 3 will actually allow gamers to participate in the testing and refinement of its multiplayer gameplay. Now, the invites found in the Crackdown packages will be the gamers’ key to enter the multiplayer beta when it comes this spring. Those with access to an Xbox 360 or an Xbox 360 Core System with hard drive, as well as a valid Xbox Live Gold subscription need only to load their Crackdown CD and use it as their key to download the beta from Xbox Live Marketplace.

Well, talk about a double-treat, eh? To be fair, this marketing strategy, though oddly new, just might prove to be a smart way of hitting two birds with one stone, so to speak. So, now that the clarification’s been made, the thing to do now is to keep your eyes peeled for these Willy Wonka packages.
