If you were asked where your Wii originated from, chances are you’d say Japan. In actuality, it’s almost a certainty that it came from China instead. See, almost everything’s being made in China these days. Even Wii consoles that are for the Japanese market are imported by Nintendo from China. Weird, and we don’t exactly get how they do it, but it’s the truth.
The Wii means business, and just like the DS, it’s breaking records all over the place. Due to Wii imports coming in from China, toy imports across six regional prefectures jumped to Â¥ 25.3 billion (US$ 213 million) in November, a record high for any single month on record. Want more impressive numbers? The Wii alone accounts for more than 40% of all toy imports from China to Japan.
The significance of the Wii’s numbers have even led an Osaka Customs guy to tell Japan’s Yomiuri Shinbun that “No other video game console has had such a big effect on imports.” Hey, with these kinds of figures maybe 2007 will really turn out to be the year of Nintendo.
