Gears of War’s Marcus plus Futurama’s Bender = Di Maggio?
A lot of us by this time probably know – unless you didn’t read the creds – that Gears of War‘s Marcus Fenix was voiced by John Di Maggio. And if you’re wondering why we slapped on a pic of Futurama‘s Bender over yonder, there’s a perfectly good reason: He’s Fenix’s long-lost cousin’s-brother’s dog’s-new owner’s-girlfriend’s-hairdresser…not.
We were scoping out IMDB earlier, and found a list of voice actor John Di Maggio’s earlier film roles, and while it included Gears of War‘s Marcus Fenix (surprise, surprise), it also mentions his role behind everybody’s favorite Matt Groening character (second to Homer). If that’s not weird enough, we looked over the list, and found his other voice roles for characters you guys probably spotted on TV and other game titles.
The Scotsman (Samurai Jack)
Wakka/Kimari (FF X-2)
Dr. Drakken (Kim Possible)
General Grievous (Star Wars)
Juggernaut (X-men VG’s)
There’s lot more roles included in the imdb list, but we figured these were the funnier ones. From the battle-grizzled Marcus, the smart-mouthed Bender, the ruthless General Grievous, the enraged Juggernaut…to the ever-incompetent Dr. Drakken? The man has talent.
