Geometry Wars Battles It Out With Grid Wars For Intellectual Property

So the Intellectual Property banner has been waved. Bizarre Creations, creator of the Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, is apparently not too happy with the spin-offs of the monster of a hit Xbox Arcade title. The clone in focus would be the Grid Wars by Mark Incitti.

Supposedly, the PC game Grid Wars is affecting the sales of Geometry Wars as both games showcases highly similar aspects. The graphical style, the game play, the enemies, all of these in Grid Wars is obviously a rip-off of the Bizarre title. In light of this, the company of Geometry Wars has talked to Incitti, asking him to “stop infringing our IP and pull the game Grid Wars from the internet for download.” If not, the other obvious recourse, apparently, will be to pursue legal action.

Of course this is such a big concern for Bizarre Creations. After all, Geometry Wars impressed the gamers so much that it holds the record of a 39% conversion rate. This statistic signifies that every second person who downloaded the game demo from Xbox live went on to buy the actual game.

Not wanting to aggravate the situation further, Incitti has voluntarily agreed to accede to Bizarre’s request. Some fans, however, are not as accepting as Incitti. They are of the opinion that Bizarre is probably just being threatened by the competition that Grid Wars pose. But isn’t that the way the game’s played?

While Incitti has surely made things easier for Bizarre Creations by positively acting on its request, there sure are still a lot of hurdles for the company to ultimately say that their game is secure. A lot of other spin-offs are being downloaded in the internet, and Grid Wars remain to be available in a whole lot of other sites.

Meanwhile, the battle for game supremacy rages on. Don’t hesitate to share your take on the issue by leaving your comments below.
