Here’s a different use for your iPhone: how about using it as a car key? Unheard of? Probably. But not to remain unseen. In the upcoming 79th Geneva Motor Show, from March 5 to 15th, 2009, Swiss Automobile Visionary Frank M. Rinderknecht will debut his awesome creation, the iChange.

What is the iChange? Essentially, it’s a concept car with adaptive energy concept.  It’s a one-seater sports car that can transform itself into a comfortable three-seater, in just mere seconds!  It has no doors, too. Instead, the roof tilts up so you can get in. Oh, and it’s a zero-emission automobile. Jump aboard!

The car’s electric motor is said to  produce 150kW, capable of propelling the car to a speed of 220km/h tops. Whoa, Nelly! Sometimes you need to feel the speed in your wheel, i guess. It comes with lithium-ion batteries that provide the energy for the electric motors.

As for the iPhone’s role in all this stupendous magnificence? It gets rid of the need for a key, and so all important functions of the vehicle can be controlled by your iPhone. No, you’re not going to drive the car via the iPhone’s touchscreen. Maybe that’ll come in the next version of the car.

Anyway, this is really cool and utterly futuristic, yes? However, I don’t think I’d feel too safe using my iPhone as my car key. I mean, if I lose my iPhone, then by association, I lose my car as well. No, thanks. I think I’d stick with those keycards. Easily duplicated, cheaper, too.

But still. Nice.
