Konami’s bright side to MGS4 delay, PAL release set for June 08

MGS4 - Image 1We knew there has got to be a logical reason for Konami‘s decision to push back the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. And no, it’s not only because they “want to work on the quality that is warranted for a MGS title.” Chief Financial Officer Noriaki Yamaguchi provides an interesting spin on the matter. In the  meantime, Australian distributor for Konami, Atari, revamps their release date for MGS4.

Snake's just as upset over the MGS4 delay - Image 1A lot have certainly been disappointed by the push back in the release of the much-awaited Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. But if you think Konami would be feeling even just a tiny bit of remorse over it, then you’re dead wrong.

In a closed door investors meeting held in Tokyo earlier today, Chief Financial Officer Noriaki Yamaguchi shed some new angle as to the reason behind the delay. Of course there was the usual “We want to work on the quality that is warranted for a MGS title” bit, but what was interesting was the financial angle.

According to Yamaguchi, it would be more financially strategic for the company if they start booking sales early next year since it would mean they’ll be booking 12 months of straight sales, as opposed to splitting MGS4 between two financial years. I guess that means they’re not really that worried about missing out on the holiday rush and joy their title could have brought in this Christmas. As such, you can keep away that red calendar marker for now, until about between April and July of next year (Japan’s financial year ends March 31).

Meanwhile, Australian distributor for Konami, Atari, has given out an updated release schedule today for Guns of the Patriots, and it pretty much spells out more sad news. MGS4 will be landing in the land down under in June of next year – and that would be the earliest possible date.

We’ll be sure to be the first to bring you the good news when it does come!
