Next-gen gets hip hop action with Def Jam: Icons

Def Jam

After the PSP release of Def Jam Fight for NY: The Takeover early last month, Electronic Arts announces today that the game will also find its way both on the PS3 and the X360. Christened now as Def Jam: Icon, the new title further infuses hip-hop music, culture and lifestyle into the gameplay. The plot is a bit familiar as players live out the life of a hip hop mogul, going from rags to riches. But spice it up with good old no-holds-barred street fight and this instantly becomes a sure fire hit.

According to EP and GM of EA Chicago Kudo Tsunoda, the environments were made in a way that’ll veer the title away from typical lifeless arenas. “The hip-hop celebrities are fighting in to environments that play an instrumental part in the fight where they will react to the music and interact with both characters like a third fighter,” added Tsunoda.

Def Jam Enterprises VP Marketing Lauren Wirtzer agrees, “We have worked very closely with the team to ensure that authentic hip-hop culture and lifestyle permeates through every part of the product.” Celebrity characters include the likes of Ludacris, T.I. and Big Boi.

Def Jam: Icon is scheduled to ship by March 2007.
