Pokeom Diamond/Pearl - Image 1Nintendo of America, The National Institute of Aerospace (NIA), and Nortel LearniT teamed up to bring cute creatures and personalities from the Nintendo DS titles Pokemon Diamond/Pearl to elementary and middle school students for them to learn science in a fun way. From now ’til December, lesson plans will be filled with characters and themes from Pokemon.

Students will figure out how to tell time using a sundial, understand how the universe is expanding, and learn more from fun activities with the guidance of science experts. Of course, there will be Pokemon monsters and characters to make the lessons lively.

NIA is counting on Pokemon to “enhance the learning experience for students” using imagery they’re familiar with. “We’re honored to have our characters take what sometimes may seem like dry topics and help make them come alive for students,” said Nintendo of America senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications George Harrison.

This isn’t the first time Pokemon will help educate students. Back in March 2007, the Pokemon Learning League was established to offer homes and schools with lessons brought to life by Pokemon characters. Some know Ada the Math Mission Guide, Lex the Language Arts Mission Guide, Quinn the Life Skills Mission Guide, and  Siara the Science Mission Guide from this subscription-based program.
