PSP homebrew Star Wars card game: Sabacc Basics

Sabacc - Image 1Finally we get to play the classic Star Wars card game of Sabacc right on our PSPs! It’s the same card game that won Han Solo the Milennium Falcon from that General Lando dude. I know it’s not anything like Tetra Master or Triple Triad, but for Star Wars fans, this sure is a homebrew milestone!

Sabacc Star Wars card game - Image 1

I’m sure I’m not the only Star Wars fan in here. And as any Star Wars fan would know, Sabacc is the card game in which Han Solo won the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian. Now, it’s our turn to try out the card game! (Yeah I’ve always wondered how it was played – I’m sure it isn’t anything like Tetra Master or Triple Triad…)

Coming from PSP homebrew developer goumba is Sabacc Basics. As he says, it actually took him about a year to get it to this level of playability, and now at least it’s fully operational. The previous version had a bug that crashes the game for a few rounds. Now on Sabacc Basics v0.5.2, this issue has been resolved. Here are more notes from the developer:

I know there’s some bugs:

  • When starting a new round, the text in the middle of the screen which tells you the selected card is not updated (oops, forgot this one, I don’t know how).
  • Probably other stuff I can’t think of right now.

Other issues:

  • There’s no artwork for the face cards, so all you’ll see is the name of the card. Volunteers welcome, I’m not a great artist.
  • Menu lacks help. Up/Down to select. X to confirm.

Note that this is still in its early stages – goumba reminds everyone that he’s still looking for volunteers for the artwork of the cards.
