The RTS installment of the Halo franchise, Halo Wars, is about to get new gameplay modes with the announcement of the Strategic Options add-on pack from Ensemble Studios. This pack features three new game modes that are designed to challenge players with new tactical objectives to keep you on their toes.

Keepaway Mode This would be the Halo Wars adaptation of “Capture the Flag,” where teams duke it out, fighting over a free-roaming Forerunner Sentinel to score points before the other team does. First to nab three Sentinels wins.

Tug of War Mode – Just like in tug of war, it’s all about being stronger than the other side. You gotta amass the bigger army and save as many buildings and resources as you can to win. If you’re a multi-tasking, micromanaging genius, this is your mode.

Reinforcement Mode – All your units will be coming as reinforcements, so you won’t have the luxury of training and building your own. You’ll have to play smart and conserve your units’ strength because you’ll have to wait for intervals before getting your next batch of units, which by the way, will be selected for you.

Strategic Options also adds four new Achievements for the game, with a total of 100 points.

  • One and Done (30 points) – Score the winning point in Keepaway Mode against Legendary AI
  • Pull Hard, Pull Deep (20 points) – Win in Tug of War Mode without once trailing against your enemy
  • Freak on a Streak (20 points) – Gain at least 15 population from a single wave in Reinforcement Mode
  • Living Loving Bug (30 points) – Obtain a Scarab in Reinforcement Mode.

According to the press release, the release date and pricing “will be available soon” so you’d best keep checking back with us for that, alright?
