Warhammer Online: Character class system

Warhammer OnlinePaul Barnett is back and this time he talks about Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning‘s goals for the character system. Just like in Part 1, Part 2 still has Barnett talking passionately about the game and explaining the appeal of the game’s character system.

The dev team has set a limit of four character classes per race. With six races available, the total number of classes in the game would be 24. Still a lot, but fewer than other MMOs out there. While the choices are limited, Barnett explains that  each class would be fun to play. Each one of them can do damage in battles and have a some tricks up their sleeves. As an example, Barnett disses a class that only does healing (read: Cleric). If all he does is heal, heal, and heal, then he’s one boring character.

The classes that make it to the game are those that can hold their own in massive battles. There are no nonsense feats and abilities whatsoever.

In parting, Barnett has this to say, “Don’t try and make every character class big, make every character class good and say they might only do a small thing, but I tell you what, they do it really well, and when you play it, it’s a ton of fun…”

While we’d want more class choices, we’re excited about Warhammer Online just because Barnett is such a master of persuasion.
