Nintendo of America confirmed that the Wii demos that were shown and played were cased in Gamecube cases. Although they were cased in Gamecubes, they were indeed running on Wii hardware. This situation is best described in the company’s words themselves- “The Wii hardware we exhibited at E3 2006 was made specifically for the E3 show and is not the final mass-production version. Some of this hardware was cased in Nintendo GameCube housing.” Although, this is nothing new for game companies at E3. Xbox 360 demos at last year’s E3 were running on an Apple, while the PS3 demos were played on development kits, as shown in the Sony Press Conference this year. We can get one good thing out of this, Nintendo knows how to recycle! Instead of purchasing expensive casing, why not use what they already have? Nintendo, nice choice in casing!
