Wii most profitable among three next-gen consoles

This is the very reason why, though unnoticed by most of us, each movement in the gaming industry causes ripples elsewhere. Elsewhere as in investments and stocks.

It is no secret Sony suffered big losses because of promises unkept. Launch date for the PS3 has been moved, was it twice or thrice? We lost count already. As an effect, third party makers of videogames incurred losses as well. And we are not talking about some ramshackle studios here. Electronic Arts has seen its stock fall almost 9% and shares of GTA maker Take-Two Interactive went down by 20%.

On the other hand, Xbox 360 has been out for a while now and Microsoft might be running out of tricks to impress the market. So, that leaves upcoming Nintendo Wii as the only profitable console left. As a matter of fact, analysts are saying, “Investors are enthusiastic about Nintendo’s prospects with Wii winning accolades at the industry’s trade show… and the handheld consoles have also been big sellers.”

We are not saying though, that things will remain like this for good. Sony could go for a late surge. For all we know, Microsoft has a big one up its sleeves. Like the old saying goes, the only permanent thing in this world is change. But for now, this much is true: It has been a tricky transition to the next generation.
