World of Warcraft: High King Maulgar problems

Taking down the Ogre Council of Blade’s Edge Mountain in Gruul’s Lair should be a World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade textbook affair, but since things could turn sour pretty fast with being at the wrong place at the wrong time, problems are unavoidable. Humpjulbonus, a level 60 Human Warrior, was curious as to how he and his raid group could tackle the enemy without losing healers, and without getting stomped on in the “second phase.”

High King Maulger. Big baddie of the Blade’s Edge Mountain and leader of the Ogre Council. He’s accompanied by Krosh Firehand (Mage), Olm the Summoner (Warlock), Kiggler the Crazed (Shaman), and Blindeye the Seer (Priest). By default, you tackle these guys one by one, from Blindeye, Olm, Krosh, Kiggler to Maulgar himself. The additionals are pretty easy, although with the wrong placement, healing support could die down quick.

Placement is everything. For example, there’s a little clip in the area, that when the pull begins, will caused the entire room to attack the raid group. So watch out for that. Healers should be placed well away from the attacks, and in relatively safe positions so that only the tanks attract the baddies. And don’t mix the healers with the mages. Keep them separate or the priests will feel the wrath of area-of-effect spells.

But what about Maulgar when he starts charging at everyone? Well, that’s a tough question to beat. He chooses at random, so don’t be mad that he happened to stomp you while chasing a scared Priest around. Keep on the move, and give a wide berth. Because he has huge resistance to melee, ranged attacks are the way to go.
