As you know, console sales are important in the life cycle of a console. Perform poorly, and this might happen to them.

We don’t show you folks sales numbers just so you can b-slap each other. It’s for those who are concerned for the performance of their consoles on the market. More sales, more games after all.

Now that that’s over with, here are the latest data on how your preferred consoles are doing.
Here are the relative sales for each of the consoles in their first 26 months in the market, for comparison purposes:

  • Wii: 17.5 million
  • PS2: 15.9 million
  • PS3: 6.79 million
  • Xbox 360: 9.2 million

The Wii is set to become the best-selling console of all time (no duh), beating even the PS2, based on their performances in the 26-month time frame.

Venture Beat also pointed out that in its first 26 months, the PS3 sold as much as the GameCube did in the same time frame. Which doesn’t mean that all is lost for the PS3. It might not make a startling comeback, but Venture Beat notes that Sony might still have a profitable generation with the PS3 thanks to its power and shelf life.
