3.02 POPS on 3.03 OE plugin

3.03 OE

Homebrew hero Dark_AleX released a tool to make your 3.03-ified PSP more fit for your needs. This plugin is used to load 3.02 PSX emulator on 3.03 OE.

Before you start ripping your hair out saying that this is a bit redundant because 3.03 has a better-working emulator than 3.02, remember in some cases this isn’t quite so. You might want to try loading certain games using the 3.02 emu.

Instructions:

  1. Copy seplugins to the root of your memory stick.
  2. Using some of the latest psardumpers, extract the 3.02 firmware with the option of the button X.
  3. Once done, copy the following files from /F0/kd to /seplugins/pops302: meaudio.prx, mesg_led.prx,
  4. pops.prx and popsman.prx.
  5. Enter in recovery menu, and enable pops302ld.prx plugin if you want to load 3.02 emulator.
  6. Run the game. It will run with 3.02 psx emulator.
  7. Whenever you want to use again the 3.03 emulator, just disable the plugin from recovery menu.

As much as a god he is, Dark_AleX still came across certain problems. He reports that test with Castlevania SotN had some unusually high activity in the memory stick. The issue here isn’t that the PRX is in the memory stick (because it’s loaded quickly onto the RAM). However, he does say that this “high activity” didn’t happen with the game not compressed and neither in 3.03 compressed.

He says it could be a problem with the different modules or quite simply a core issue with 3.02. Dark_Alex is still not sure if this SotN issue affects other games and suggests you might want to use uncompressed games to slow down the “high activity.”
