400,000 Wiis + 1.5M DS Lites = more “Nintendo64 Kids”

Sleigh bells ring. Are you listening? In the lane, snow is glistening. A beautiful sight, we’re happy tonight, walking in Nintendo wonderland. There’s definitely going to be a lot of happy Nintendo kids out there come Christmas. While the PS3 launch clocked 88,400 units sold, Nintendo is now learning from their competitor and will up their Wii console shipments to 400,000 units for the Japan launch on December 2.

Now, next-gen aside, what about the NDS? Hey, the handheld is still going strong, after all. Obviously, Nintendo won’t leave their DS to bite the dust. There’s no way that that’s going to happen. So, to make gamers even happier this Christmas, they’re going to promise DS Lite shipments of 1.5 million in Japan. With that number, the supposed “20 million DS sales” seems like a very attainable goal.

So, remember a few years ago when we saw the enthusiasm of the now-immortalized “Nintendo64 Kid”? This year, we better expect lots of other kids screaming/shrieking come the holidays when they find a Wii or DS Lite under the tree. Care to join us for a quick moment of reminiscing below?
