600,000 Wiis in eight days

You're mine! We’ve all heard of how successful the Wii launch was just last week. But what’s more important to note is, how well is it actually doing in terms of sales? Pretty darned good, it may seem.

In just eight days, since its official release to the public, Nintendo happily reports that they have already sold more than 600,000 Wii units (ka-ching! ka-ching!). “Show me the money!!! “, you say? A whopping, USS$ 190 million! In just a week! Well done, guys. Bloody well done!

And apparently, it’s not only Nintendo’s next-gen console that’s raking in all the cash. Launch title The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is reported to already have sold more than 454,000 units. What this translates to is that three out of every four Wii unit purchasers also grab a Zelda and puts it in the bag.

Says good ol’ Reggie (and we’re sure he’s all smiles when he said this), “Even with sales already in excess of 600,000 units demand continues to exceed supply, as it’s clear this is one of the ‘gotta-have’ products for the holiday season.”

And that’s just in North America. Wait ’til it gets released in Japan come December 2, with Europe following close on its heels on December 8. Definitely, it’s gonna be a blast. With four million consoles planned to be shipped worldwide by the end of the year, and given the success of its sales, we’re not finding it hard to believe why Nintendo will have one of the highest net worth by next year.

Dang, but them Nintendo people sure are gonna have a merry, merry Christmas this year!
