An MS-DOS Based Website Launched For Valve’s Portal

DigiPen recently launched a mysterious website for Valve‘s upcoming mini-game called Portal that will be bundled with the release of Team Fortress 2 (PS3, Xbox 360) in Half Life 2: Episode 2 (PS3, Xbox 360).

As described by one of Portal‘s designer, it is a first-person, single-player game set in the Half Life universe. It is a stand-alone game that will provide an extra three hours of gameplay to the HL2: Episode 2 game package. In Portal, the players acts as a test subject for the Aperture Science Corporation to complete a set of challenges, like you’re a rat in maze. Players can utilize the Portal device as a slightly less powerful gravity gun to allow players to easily pick up objects and toss them through Portals. The portals can be created in any flat surface such as walls, ceilings and floors.

We checked out the website for the mini-game and its called Aperture Science. If you are familiar with the MS-DOS prompt, it will be easy for you to navigate tghroughthe site (typing in a file name launches an EXE file, DIR pulls up a directory listing, etc). But for starters, just type LOGIN after the whole site download. Then enter any username that you want and make PORTAL as your password. It will provide you your own Unique Identity Number (Plus Letters) or UIN(+L) which you have to rmember. From there you will have to answer a series of questions (50 questions in all, we counted) that looks like a personality and general knowledge exam although most of them are absurd like “What is your favorite color”. Anyway, it’s like you are being tested if you will pass the Enrichment Center Test Subject Application. Afer you complete the series of questions, you have to enter the 64 digit UIN(+L) to complete the process.
