Educational options in Second Life
Second Life Insider’s Eloise Pasteur informs that the Sim Teach wiki provides a good listing of formal education available within the metaverse of Linden Lab‘s Second Life.
Eloise also adds several recent SL entrants that are not listed in the wiki. They are the Edinburgh University School of Informatics, the University of South Queensland and the Queensland Government, The Australian Film and Television School, and the Institute for Science and Technology in Education.
Of course, as varied as these options are, not everyone is convinced that SL is the way forward for education. Chris Mellissinos, Sun’s chief gaming officer, says that SL is too insecure for education.
Regardless of how education via virtual worlds will evolve (pretty murky given the politics involved in higher education), if you’re looking to use SL as a means to learn and improve on your strengths or weaknesses, a link to that Sim Teach wiki is to be had via our “Read” link below.
