Average age of Wii owners is 29, says Fils-Aime
The average age of Nintendo Wii owners, according to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, is actually somewhere in the middle of young and old. The head honcho is also confident in the quality of third-party games, saying developers are pushing hardware to the limit. More on this at the full article.
Contrary to popular belief, according to the man of kicking ass and taking names, the average age of Nintendo Wii owners is not below 13 or above 60. In a conference call, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said Wii owners are still mostly core gamers.
After revealing what makes up the Wii audience, Fils-Aime went on to state that the console’s software attach rates top the Sony PlayStation 2 which recently broke 120 million in units sold. In other words, Nintendo Wii users actually have more than Wii Sports and a couple of minigame collections in their libraries.
Nintendo’s platforms always seem to be dominated by first-party titles, but Fils-Aime is confident in third-parties. “Any system will have a range of quality,” he said, and added that developers are “working hard” to get the best out of the Wii.
When talking about taking the Wii online, Fils-Aime clarified, “We do not anticipate making online playable VC games.” However, he ensured the Wii can at least support voice chat. “It’s just an issue of deciding on a peripheral,” he explained.
