A sneak peek at Ridge Racer 7

Okay. We’ve been holding it in long enough, so just indulge us, alright? Here goes.

RIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RAAACEEEEEEERRRRRRRR!

Whew. That felt good. Now let’s all move on to the topic at hand. Bandai Namco’s Ridge Racer 7 is easily one of the most anticipated games for the PS3. This latest iteration of the venerable racing series has been engineered to meet the standards of next-gen videogames, featuring great-looking graphics and improved gameplay. Ridge Racer 7 also features an added emphasis on arcade-style drift racing, and will include forty machines and twenty-two different tracks.

The developers have also beefed up the game’s customization options. According to Namco representatives, you have 375,000 ways to make your driving machine unique, with up to 7,150 combinations to tailor the vehicle’s performance. Pretty impressive numbers, in our opinion. As for what aspects can be customized, those include exteriors, performance, handling and a little something called variable nitrous, where players can strengthen their normal or ultimate charges, increase the number of nitrous tanks, and select auto-charge or reverse charge.

Of course, every new game in a racing series has to have a few new cars. In Ridge Racer 7, there are three new vehicles: the Centellee, the Magnifico, and the Jujak. The Centellee is the latest super sports vehicle from Terrazi, boasting a 4000cc V8 engine, a top speed of 210mph and a handcrafted body. The Magnifico is a “practical and luxurious” sports car, with a drastically lightened body, an inline 2000cc 4-cylinder engine, and a top speed of 178mph. Finally, the Jujak is a high-tech sports coupe featuring multi-torque control for variable road and weather conditions, an inline 2700cc 4-cylinder engine and a top speed of 156mph.
