A Tale In The Desert: Share Your Experiences For Prizes

ATITDIt’s not about traditional “Fan Fiction” in the truest sense, but if you have an interesting story based on your experiences playing A Tale In The Desert, eGenesis and the folks at MMORPG.com want to hear about it. What’s more, they’re offering prizes for the best narratives.

The “My Tale” contest began yesterday and runs through 3 August 2006 at 11:59:59 PM EDT. Anyone who has played A Tale In The Desert I, II or III is eligible. If you’ve never played ATITD, you have another ten days or so to download the game and enjoy 24 hours of free play (no credit card required). The idea, by the way, is to tell your story in the form of interesting and dramatic narrative prose – a dry journal account won’t cut it. Here’s an example (not from the contest or game):

“The bone-chilling scream split the warm summer night in two, the first half being before the scream when it was fairly balmy and calm and pleasant, the second half still balmy and quite pleasant for those who hadn’t heard the scream at all, but not calm or balmy or even very nice for those who did hear the scream, discounting the little period of time during the actual scream itself when your ears might have been hearing it but your brain wasn’t reacting yet to let you know.”

You might want to break up those sentences and make them shorter, but that’s the general idea. Prizes include ATITD music CDs, autographed t-shirts, 3 months of free game play, the Book Collection of Alvin Maker, eGenesis’ next (unspecified) MMO, and a rubber chicken (maybe).

You can sign up at MMORPG.com. Tales are to be posted on the ATITD forums, and must follow all terms and conditions of the MMORPG.com forums.
