An update on the Rogue situation from Tigole

World of Warcraft - Image 1Remember the “Updates from the Frontlines” from Tigole? Well here’s the long and short of it. Tigole by the way is Jeffrey Kaplan (full name Tigole Bitties, don’t ask) and is the lead designer for world design in the World of Warcraft (quests, dungeons, raids, and outdoor zones).

Here’s what Blizzard posted Ommra (and Tigole) had to say on the European WoW forums regarding the rogue situation on the 360-degree striking sweep:

We’ve done a tuning pass of many of our dungeons/bosses/encounters to ensure that nothing overly punishing occurs to “melee DPS’ that would lead people to favour ranged DPS over Rogues/DPS Warriors etc.

Also, weÂ’ve changed the NPC cleave mechanic so that itÂ’s now a frontal cone ability rather than a 360 degree chain attack. Sweeping Strikes has been removed from all Burning Crusade NPC’s.

We’re also reducing the Glancing Blow damage penalty for creatures 1-3 levels higher than the player. This will have a significant effect on melee DPS as it relates to endgame melee dps. More details on this at a later time.

That’s definitely good news for the all the melee DPS players (mainly rogues and warriors). This means that only the main tank will get the brunt of the damage (as is intended) and well, we’ll see the results in the long run anyway. There isn’t any updates on just how much reduction there will be on Glancing Blow’s damage. Engineering on the other hand is apparently getting fixed on the next content patch, though they “won’t make all changes all at once.”

Looks like we have a whole lot to expect from the World of Warcraft patch 2.1.0.
