Analysts: Project Natal will double Microsoft’s profits for two fiscal years

natalIf last year you made Microsoft some US$ 4.8 billion richer from both hardware and software sales, you might as well expect a couple more billions added to that bulk — give or take a few — with the release of Project Natal.

Goldman Sachs analaysts Sarah Friar and Derek Bingham foresee that an additional US$ 1.7 billion will be added to Microsoft’s money pile for the 2011 fiscal year (beginning July 2010), and US$ 2.3 billion for its 2012 fiscal year. They also posited a US$ 85 retail price for Natal upon launch.

Yes, it may seem like such huge numbers, especially at a stage as soon as this. But these analysts are confident that Project Natal will be the blockbuster hit that the Xbox 360 console has been waiting for to combat the dwindling hardware sales.

It’s not just the release of Natal that they predict to be big. Even the attach rate is expected to be pegged at a whopping 56% less than two years after its launch. Said the duo, “Xbox has been predominantly targeted towards a more hardcore gaming demographic, which is different from the family oriented approach of Wii and Wii Fit. Natal now adds a hook for the more casual gamer.”
