Another Dose of Kazuo Hirai on PS3 Production

Kaz HiraiAround the first week of August, Phil Harrison, Sony president of worldwide studios, revealed that the “PS3 has officially entered production.” However according to Kazuo Hirai, President of Sony Entertainment, that is not the case.

Say what?

Kazuo Hirai says that there’s no official announcement YET regarding the production of the PS3 console. But he does say that they’re “on track to deliver 2 million units for the launch period.” And when will the launch be? Well, we’re guessing you pretty much know it (hint: It’s on the 17th day of the 11th month of this year).

Moreover, Hirai doesn’t seem to have any worries regarding its price. For Hirai, a Blu-ray player with “much entertainment value” seems to be a pretty good deal for $599.

Speaking of which, Hirai admits that there’s no guarantee that they won’t have a PS3 shortage. However, their previous experiences with console production had taught them a lot of lessons, so we’re guessing we just have to wait and see what the company will pull out of their sleeve. However, he assures PS3 fans that they’re making every effort to meet demands both in market and smaller territories.

So far, they’re keeping mum about launch titles and the nitty-gritty details of PS3 production. But if “things are going according to plan” as Hirai claims them to be, then we’ll just have to take his word on it for now. Hopefully, he’ll still utter the same words during the PS3 launch. And hopefully, consumers will really get their money’s worth.
