Arena point mishap: Epic Arena gears, easier grabs

Some time ago we brought to you news about the arena point issues that allowed you to grab slightly more points by losing than winning. And then came the news that the Epic gear rewards were being offered by Blizzard for certain levels of Arena point accumulation. If you can piece them together, you’d think that the Epic Arena gears were just a couple of losses away.

So getting together with four other folks who have little care of winning, running around naked, and playing pinata to the swinging bat, is the whole new (and lazy) way into getting to pimp yourself out with awesome Arena weapons. But let’s put this into perspective: the solution is only good for a short time span. Eventually, with the dip in ratings updated every week, you will be harnessing a much lower Arena point total for the 10-match loss.

As Drysc demonstrated, after your rating takes the dip toward 1350 from the starting 1500, you’d be garnering about 346 arena points (from last week’s 377). In contrast, if you did win 10 matches in the 2 vs. 2 bracket last week and this week, you’d be gaining a 448 point total (from a 335 last week). The suggested counter to that is to pay 40 gold to reform a new Arena team, so you don’t get hit by the drop in rank, and start out from the default 1500 again.

There’s a big thought about going through all the trouble just to hike up the ratings ladder, only to find out that the points climb slower in each win but drop deeper when they lose. So yes, perhaps the solution, suggested by Level 70 Night Elf Rogue Setekh, is a good way to try out Epic gear minus the whining. For all it’s ease, it’s not as glorious as the hard way.
