ATDS: security for your NDS

No to stolen handhelds! And so, from the creator of ATPSP comes a similar application which has been tailored for the Nintendo DS, aptly dubbed as ATDS. For those who may not be familiar with these names, ATPSP and ATDS are homebrew applications that were created by the coder, bawls (a.k.a. realn0whereman).

This application is an anti-theft program which, in case your handheld gets stolen, can track the location of the thief by making the unit email to you its current IP address each time the DS or PSP is connected via USB onto the culprit’s computer. It also informs the real owner what browser is being used and Windows version.

This version that bawls has made for the DS, though, has an extra feature wherein the stolen DS will send a pop-up to all users on the network, informing everyone that the person using the DS at the moment is not the owner, and has instead stolen it. The app is also only 3 kb, so space should not be an issue.

The creator of this application has included the following installation instructions:

  • Right click on my computer and click properties
  • Go to the Advanced tab
  • Click on Enviormental Variables at the bottom.
  • You will see 2 white boxes. one above the other. click into the lower one labeled System Variables.
  • Click New
  • A box will popup asking variable name and variable value

                 Variable Name = thief
                 Varable Value = false

                 MAKE SURE SPELLING IS CORRECT!!!!

  • After you Add the info click the OK box. Keep clickin the ok box until you have exited to your desktop.
  • Great now you are considered the DS owner.

He has included further instructions, so just click on the forum link below to view the complete set.
