Barlog: God of War PSP not a port; Hollywood adaptation “in development”

God of War PSP is not a port, according to Cory Barlog - Image 1There’s no stopping the Ready At Dawn‘s PlayStation Portable (PSP) version of God of War now. It was just these past few days when everything fell into their rightful places: the Sony confirmation at GDC, the flyer at the back of God of War II (PS2), and the recent revelations by game director Cory Barlog.

The outspoken director reiterated the fact that the PSP version of the game is not going to be a port of the original one. Speaking to GameSpot during the God of War II launch at the Metreon Entertainment Complex in San Fran, Barlog remarked,

We’re not gonna do a port. This isn’t gonna be God of War I on the PSP, this is gonna be an all new adventure that ties into the overarching story. So if we go on to make a God of War III, the PSP version will tie directly into what we’re doing in the overall story.

Barlog then went on and explained the strategy he is planning for the series. “My big strategy for this entire franchise is that there’s never going to be some solo, separated thing. Everything’s going to deal with the overall plot.”

And then, somewhat surprisingly, the director warns fans that the movie adaptation of the video game is not yet confirmed even though Entertainment Weekly just reported that the movie script has been finished. According to Barlog, “It’s just like every other Hollywood thing, it can be in development. But does it make it out development and actually get made into a film? I hope it does.”
