Beware: microwave oven causes Wii to lag

Ever experienced problems with lag when playing Wii games that make extensive use of the console’s motion sensing capabilities? One reason could be the microwave oven if you leave it working near your Wii. Some posters from the NeoGAF forums discussed their mysterious problems which ultimately led to pointing at microwave interference as the main cause.

It all started when one person decided to play some golf in Wii Sports while waiting for milk to finish microwaving. The microwave oven was around 10 feet away from the Wii, and proved to cause off-sync movements while playing. Other posters claim to have the same problem.

Other wireless gizmos (like the Wiimote, among other things) have been reported to go haywire when near microwaves. We haven’t heard of any Wii units getting bricked after prolonged exposure to microwave, so it’s probably a good challenge to beat Metroid Prime 3: Corruption in the fastest time or score goals in Mario Strikers Charged while dinner is heating up in the oven near you.
