Big Boss is also big on advertising

mgs_doritosSolid Snake was already cool, but when his wrinkly old self sported an iPod in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, he showed us he was the hippest gramps in town. But when it comes to product endorser potential, the master of tactical espionage is dwarfed by the amount of in-game ads found in his old man’s Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

Apparently, Konami’s cross-publisher partnerships didn’t stop with the Monster Hunter tie-up. It seems that Assassin’s Creed‘s Brotherhood showed Big Boss how to dive from the rooftops – complete with piles of straw to comfortably land in. No one’s getting desynchronized in Peace Walker, but it makes me wish View Points were compatible with Soliton Radars.

Japanese clothing company Uniqlo also brings their goods into Peace Walker, because even Big Boss would like to kick back and don civilian attire even when on a mission. And since war has changed again, he can’t show up on a PSP game with an iPod like Snake – Sony’s taking care of the music in Peace Walker with oldschool casette players and futuristic MP3 players.

Doritos, being the long-time supporter of games that it is, most recently with their amateur gaming competition, will also toss bags of chips into the game – eat them up to restore health. Wash them down with Mountain Dew and Pespi Nex, also consumable for recovery. There are also shirts in the game with the product names on them, just in case you want to go all-out.

There are also bottles of Axe in the game, though I’m not quite sure what they’ll be for, and the Axe Effect is the last thing you need when sneaking around.

Peace Walker also has some form of collaboration with Japanese gaming publications Jump, Famitsu, and Dengeki, although the details for those have not been revealed. Maybe you’ll get a Famitsu shield a la Phantasy Star Portable 2? Along the sides, Konami also partnered with Square Enix for Peace Walker action figures.
