Big changes for addons in WoW Burning Crusade

Taken from untamedguild.netSome rather depressing news for World of Warcraft’s modding and UI community today, though it’s one that’s also filled with opportunity. According to Blizzard’s representatives on the forums, The Burning Crusade expansion will make most of the UI addons every raiding guild considers to be standard practice these days ineffectual.

Says Tyren, one of Blizzard’s fabled blues, “Essentially, we don’t want UI mods to make combat-sensitive decisions for players and as such, we’ve made some changes that block functionality that we feel is counter to the spirit of these philosophies. They said they would be improving the functionality of the in-game UI itself, but there’s no word as to what those additions are.

Unless something will be placed in BC to make things a whole lot simpler for raiders, you can bet there’s going to be hell to pay. For most raiding guilds, this means that modifications like Decursive and Benecast will be unable to perform their single-click healing functions, which will definitely add to the stress of healer classes and anyone who can negate curses. There’s also no word on whether this will affect UI changers such as CT_Raid, which is one of the most popular mods out there.

The bottom line: People are going to be angry, but some others, upon hearing this news, will definitely start finding ways to either get past the system or train themselves in the ways of perfect teamwork. All paths will definitely be tough, but perhaps winning an epic battle with this sort of “handicap” might just be the added challenge some people were looking for.
