If you’ve played BioWare‘s Mass Effect either on PC or the Xbox 360, we are pretty sure that you’ve also tried some of the side quests available for the game. We, like you, think that some of these work and while others don’t.

BioWare General Manager Greg Zeschuk was recently interviewed regarding this and admitted that their team believes that some of the side quests can still be further improved. He said everything they’ve learned will be used in sequels and all their upcoming games.

So what exactly did BioWare learn during the development period of Mass Effect? According to Zeschuk, they learned that side quests should be interesting enough for players to try them but they should always compliment and not overpower the main story of a game.

The general manager also added that they are planning to incorporate side quests to future projects that will also prove important to the main plot. He used Mass Effect as an example:

Another thing weÂ’re looking at – again not specific to one game, but just generally – is a way of tying those additional moments back into the story: whether itÂ’s having to gather certain things for those other planets.

Kind of making them more central to the story but making sure that theyÂ’re still the supporting cast. We want to be sure that thereÂ’s something really purposeful about them.

For those not contented with the recently released DLC Bring Down the Sky and want a full blown sequel, BioWare GM Greg Zeschuk dropped some hint regarding the direction the series is going. He commented:

We look at Mass Effect 2 as incredibly exciting. Just the amount of effort and knowledge and know-how that went into building the technology for the first one is huge, and we now have the chance to actually make things a little bit richer.

That’s about it for now for Mass Effect. Just keep checking back here at QJ.NET as we promise to update you as soon as something comes up.
